In August 2011, Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh opens the first Confucius Classroom at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Through this initiative, Saint Augustine’s students will have the opportunity to study Chinese language and culture in an immersive setting right on campus. Maintained and operated by the Confucius Institute at NC State University, the Confucius Classroom provides one Chinese language instructor and an operational fund for supporting Chinese language classes and cultural events at Saint Augustine’s University throughout the academic year.
This Confucius Classroom is the third developed by NC State University’s Confucius Institute, joining those already in place at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford and Enloe High School in Raleigh. The Confucius Classroom and its course offerings are open to all students at Saint Augustine’s University.
